Summer disappeared far too quickly...as it always does.
And, as often happens, the busyness of every day life (and the exhaustion that follows) has lent itself to an eventual mode of survival as opposed to the fullness our Creator so generously offers.
This reality has definitely unfolded throughout the comings and goings of the past couple of months, and though the onset was recognizable, the effort was never made to stop it.
Coasting. A word that is loathed by this soul-searching, growth-hungry, self-driven wife and mother of four. Coasting. The 'enemy' of sorts has slowly but surely become a companion. Easier to be comfortable, simpler to sleep later, more appealing to check out than to check myself.
The symptoms of this wretched disease of self-destruction have become overwhelmingly obvious: lack of motivation, inability to focus, dwindling connections with others, ongoing mental distractions, having little to offer the most valuable people in this life.
There is satisfaction in knowing that said disease has not yet been victorious - with gratitude it is noticed that my Creator continues to offer help and hope, though there has been great hesitation, even stubbornness, in accepting. The mind knows the solutions, the will refuses to cooperate, the heart longs for change.
Today marks a step in the right direction - a reestablishment of purposeful space in my day for that which proves to nourish the soul. A reconnection with the One who promises to provide what we need when we live for Him, who offers peace and joy, strength and hope, life and love.
And even in the sitting, the slowing to write, the pausing to process; the mind slows and begins to remember the truth that has been tucked away far too long:
"Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern." Matthew 6:32-33
"Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand." Philippians 4:6
"Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8
"Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be." Matthew 6:21
No more delays, no more excuses. No more coasting. Time to get back on track towards the truth, the growth, the purpose that truly fulfills and completely satisfies. Time to remember again the multitude of reasons for gratitude:
390. Simple solutions - "Love God, love others."
391. A dedicated, respectful, and faithful husband.
392. Motherhood.
393. A wonderful home in a safe and comfortable community.
394. Fantastic teachers and administrators in our school system.
395. A job that not only allows me to participate in amazing opportunities to bless others, but also provides ongoing encouragement, inspiration, growth, and relationship.
396. Family and friends.
397. Easy access to truth.
398. Quiet nights.
399. Peace of mind.
400. The indescribable love of a Father who desires so much goodness for my life.
