My hubby and I recently joined the Children's Ministry Team at our church, and while we have been involved in various other children's activities in the past, our first project on the CM Team was Vacation Bible School. Our Children's Pastor had a fun 'Family Blitz' game show theme planned, where whole families were invited and got to participate in game shows each night. We had "Deal or No Deal," "The Price is Right," "Wheel of Fortune," and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." It was a lot of fun, and we had quite a few families come out and participate.
The reason for this particular blog entry is that my husband volunteered to be the game show 'host' for the week, a role that he played amazingly well (several of us adults think he may have found his calling!); however, as the week progressed, he learned that he had 'volunteered' for much, much more...
Our Pastor loves to throw out challenges for our kids with the understanding that if the challenges are met, he will do something wild, like dye his hair or even shave it all off! Well, for VBS, he challenged the kids to bring lots of visitors and lots of offering. If they succeeded in their challenges, he was willing to let them make him into a human banana split! As it turns out, the kids did exceedingly well in their challenges; in fact, they did so well, that our Pastor also ended up 'volunteering' my husband and another CM Team member to join him in the banana split!
So, on the final night, these three men willingly subjected themselves to having numerous bananas squished on their heads and stuffed down their shirts, followed by 5 gallons of ice cream, strawberry syrup, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and cherries...what a mess! The kids had a blast, though (especially the children of the 3 volunteers!), and yes, I have pictures. Enjoy! :)
