Reading Champs

This morning was a fun one for our family as we got to see our kiddos take 3rd and 4th place in the whole school during the Accelerated Reader Awards Program!

As some of you may recall, K1 took home 2nd place two years ago for reading and testing on 300 books throughout the school year. She earned a wonderful plaque for that honor, and K2 has been determined to follow in her footsteps and earn a plaque of his own. Well, last year they both did well (they have done well every year!), but neither of them quite made it into the top 3. So, K2 began this year totally fired up about the Accelerated Reader Program and set his sights on the prize, and today he brought home a beautiful plaque for 3rd place after reading and testing on 371 books!
Congratulations!! You did it!

The competition was pretty stiff as the top 2 prizewinners both broke school records and exceeded 450 books! It was fun for the kids, though, because the boy who won first place is a neighbor and friend of K2, and the girl who got second is a very good friend of K1!

Anyways, they don't usually announce the 4th place winner, but this year they awarded the top four with giant inflatable monkeys - just like the one that has been hanging in the school library all year long! So, with 265 points, K1 was recognized for 4th place, and yes, we now have 6 monkeys in our home instead of 4...

It is a proud day for the Decker family! Way to go, kiddos!
